Close the Tab – A Teen-Friendly Thought Reset Worksheet - FREE
A simple, modern tool to help teens shut down overthinking and mentally “close” intrusive or unwanted thoughts.
A printable worksheet designed to help teens identify looping worries or intrusive thoughts, sort what’s in their control, and consciously 'close the tab' so their mind can settle.
About This Resource
We’ve all heard the phrase, “I’ve got a thousand tabs open in my brain.” It’s that feeling of thoughts looping, worries repeating, things to remember, conversations replaying - all running at once. For young people especially, that mental noise can feel overwhelming in a world where they feel they lack control.
Close the Tab uses a familiar browser metaphor to gently help teens slow down and focus on one thought at a time. It guides them to choose a “tab” they’d like to close, explore why it’s bothering them, work out what’s in their control (and what isn’t), and decide how they can put it to bed for now.
This isn’t about ignoring problems or pretending they don’t matter. It’s about helping teens build the skill of stepping back from a thought, rather than being stuck inside it.
With a clean, modern layout, Close the Tab feels age-appropriate and respectful, something teens can use independently without it feeling childish or overly clinical.

How to Use
Teens can use Close the Tab whenever a thought feels stuck, repetitive or louder than everything else. It can be completed independently, or gently offered by a parent, carer or professional.
They begin by writing down the thoughts currently “open” in their mind. Next, they choose the one taking up the most space and explore why it’s bothering them. From there, they decide whether action is needed. If something can be done, they identify one small, manageable next step. If it’s out of their control, they choose a strategy to help them close it for now - such as talking to someone, using a calming technique, writing it down, or consciously deciding it can wait.
To finish, they complete the closing statement and symbolically “close” the tab. This small ritual helps signal to the brain that the thought has been acknowledged and set aside.
Close the Tab helps teens create mental space. By identifying intrusive thoughts, separating control from worry, and practising intentional closure, they learn that they don’t have to keep every tab open. It’s a simple but powerful skill that can be used again and again, whenever the mind feels overloaded.
