Navigating Friendships: A Traffic Light Guide

Embark on a friendship journey with our engaging and educational resource, "Navigating Friendships." This driving themed activity puts your child in the driving seat to steer their friendships. It is designed to help children navigate the complex landscape of friendships using a traffic light system – a fun and intuitive way for them to understand the signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships.

How to Use:

Help children explore the signs of unhealthy and healthy relationships with our traffic light system. We want them to write down signs of healthy and unhealthy friendships at each stage of the light.

  1. Healthy friendships (Go - Green): Begin the journey by exploring healthy friendships that get the green light. Children can identify and write down the positive signs of a healthy friendship, fostering an understanding of what makes a friendship thrive.
  2. Proceed with Caution (Slow - Amber): This stage prompts children to slow down and think about their friendships. Help children to identify signs that suggest a friendship might be heading in an unhealthy direction.
  3. Halt and Reflect (Stop - Red): Here, children will consider signs indicating that it may be time to move on from a friendship. This crucial step promotes self-awareness and empowers children to make choices that support their well-being.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop an understanding of the dynamics of friendships.
  • Recognise and articulate signs of both healthy and unhealthy friendships.
  • Encourage critical thinking and reflection on interpersonal relationships.

This "Navigating Friendships" resource is a valuable tool for parents, educators, and caregivers who want to empower children with the skills to navigate the complexities of friendships confidently. Download this resource, buckle up, and embark on a journey of self-discovery and positive relationship-building with your child.
