What Helpful Habits Will Children Discover?

There are 10 habits hidden around the haunted house:

  1. Moving our bodies
  2. Getting enough sleep
  3. Doing something creative
  4. Spending time outside
  5. Practising mindfulness
  6. Taking time to relax
  7. Spending time with friends
  8. Eating healthily
  9. Talking about our feelings
  10. Doing things we enjoy

Each habit is represented by a friendly ghost enjoying an everyday activity, giving children a visual way to explore the different things we can do to support our wellbeing.

How to Use This Resource

1. Explore the Haunted House! Give children a copy of the haunted house illustration and challenge them to find all 10 helpful habits. They can colour the picture, circle the habits they discover or simply point them out.

2. Discuss What They Find: Use the accompanying Discussion & Answer Guide to explore each habit and why it might be helpful. Children don't need to identify the habits using the exact wording in the guide. For example, they might say gardeninginstead of spending time outside, or feeling calm instead of practising mindfulness. The important part is recognising and exploring the activities.

3. Make It Personal: Encourage children to think about which habits they already practise, which ones they enjoy and whether there are any they'd like to try.

4. Extend the Learning: Invite children to design their own Haunted House of Helpful Habits, filling the rooms with activities that support their own wellbeing. Alternatively, encourage them to try different habits and discover what works best for them!
