Resource Info

"Thought Reframe" is an activity that allows children to practice an effective cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) technique for challenging and reframing unhelpful thoughts. This technique helps individuals develop a more balanced and positive perspective on their thoughts and experiences.

Key Features:

Explore Unhelpful Thoughts: This activity helps children to identify negative (unhelpful) thoughts that may be contributing to negative emotions or unhelpful beliefs.

Cognitive Restructuring: Using the CBT technique, individuals are guided to reframe the thoughts listed in the frames by challenging and replacing them with more realistic, positive, or balanced thoughts.

Reflection and Writing: The activity encourages individuals to reflect on their own unhelpful thoughts or identify their unhelpful thoughts. This process helps reinforce the practice of thought reframing and allows them to develop the ability to challenge them as they appear.

Benefits:

Cognitive Flexibility: Thought Reframe helps children develop cognitive flexibility by challenging negative thoughts and exploring alternative perspectives. This can lead to a more adaptive and positive mindset.
Emotional Regulation: Reframing negative thoughts can contribute to better emotional regulation as individuals learn to manage their emotions and respond more effectively to challenging situations.

Positive Self-Talk: The practise of reframing negative thoughts promotes the development of positive self-talk. This can boost self-esteem, self-confidence, and overall well-being.

Stress Reduction: By reframing the thoughts, children can become better equipped to handle difficult situations and view challenges as opportunities for growth.

Empowerment: Thought Reframe empowers children to take control of their own thoughts and emotions by connecting their own thoughts to the thoughts in the frames.

This activity is great to help children develop a growth mindset and learn the CBT technique of thought reframing. By identifying unhelpful thoughts and replacing them with more positive and balanced ones, children can develop a life-long thought management technique that can help them navigate the ups and downs of life.
