Monthly Meditations with Be Happy – September 2026 Meditation + Activity

Welcome to Monthly Meditations with Be Happy!

Each month, we bring you a brand-new guided meditation and activity designed to help children pause, relax and explore their thoughts and feelings through calming, child-friendly visualisation.

September’s Meditation – The Cosy Nest

September can be a busy month, with lots to think about, remember and adjust to. This month’s meditation invites children to imagine a cosy little nest tucked safely amongst the trees – a peaceful space inside their mind that they can retreat to whenever they need a moment of calm.

September’s Activity – My Cosy Nest

Bring the meditation to life with our accompanying My Cosy Nest activity! Children can cut out the colourful leaves and feathers to decorate their nest, before filling the centre with drawings or words representing all the things that bring them comfort. These might be people, places, objects, activities or anything else that helps them feel calm, safe and comfortable.

The activity can be used alongside the meditation or as a lovely standalone wellbeing activity to help children explore their own personal sources of comfort and calm.

September Meditation & Activity – The Cosy Nest

A calming September meditation and creative cut-and-stick activity, helping children create a safe, comforting space they can retreat to inside their imagination.

September’s Meditation – The Cosy Nest

September can be a busy month. With routines to settle into, things to remember and lots happening around us, children can sometimes benefit from having a quiet place to retreat to – even if that place exists only inside their imagination.

The Cosy Nest is a gentle guided meditation that invites children to imagine themselves as a little bird flying through the September sky before discovering a cosy nest tucked safely between the branches of a tree.

Once inside, children are encouraged to make the nest their own, filling it with anything that helps them feel safe, calm and comfortable. It might contain soft leaves and fluffy feathers, a favourite blanket, something that makes them smile, or even someone or something special that brings them comfort.

As they settle into their nest, children practise slow breathing and are encouraged to enjoy the feeling of having nowhere else they need to be and nothing they need to do.

Most importantly, children discover that their cosy nest can become a safe space inside their mind – somewhere they can return to in their imagination when things feel busy, worries are buzzing around their head, or they simply need a quiet moment.

September’s Activity – My Cosy Nest

This month’s meditation comes complete with a creative on-theme activity, allowing children to bring their imaginary cosy nest to life!

Children can cut out the colourful leaves and feathers provided and stick them around their nest before filling the centre with all the things that help them feel calm, safe and comfortable.

They might choose to write or draw:

  • People who make them feel safe and supported
  • Places where they feel comfortable
  • Favourite or comforting objects
  • Activities that help them feel calm
  • Pets or animals
  • Sounds, smells or sensory comforts
  • Anything else that brings them a sense of comfort or calm

There are no right or wrong answers – each child's cosy nest can be completely personal to them.

About This Resource

The Cosy Nest has been designed to combine mindfulness, visualisation and creativity in one gentle September wellbeing activity.

The meditation introduces them to an imaginative strategy they can practise and return to. By creating a safe space within their mind and filling it with things that bring them comfort, children can begin to build their own personal calming toolkit.

The accompanying craft then gives children an opportunity to explore those ideas further, identifying the people, places, objects and activities that help them feel most settled and secure.

How to Use

Begin by finding a quiet space and reading The Cosy Nest meditation slowly in a calm, steady voice. Allow children time to imagine the September sky, their little nest and all the things they would choose to place inside it.

Afterwards, introduce the My Cosy Nest activity.

Children can cut out the feathers and leaves, stick them around the outside of their nest and then use the large blank space in the centre to write or draw anything that helps them feel calm, safe and comfortable.

Once complete, encourage children to remember their nest. When they are feeling busy, worried or in need of a quiet moment, they can close their eyes, take a slow breath and imagine themselves back inside it.

The meditation and activity can also be used separately, making this a flexible resource for classrooms, ELSA sessions, counselling and therapy work, wellbeing groups or at home.

A lovely mindfulness and wellbeing activity for settling into September and finding a little calm amongst the busyness.
