To My Future Self - A Reflective End-of-Year Postcard Activity for Transition Support

As the school year draws to a close, students often feel a mix of excitement and uncertainty about the future. To My Future Self is a thoughtful, creative resource that helps children ease the transition into a new school year by writing a postcard to themselves, one that bridges the gap between now and September.

About This Resource

This printable postcard activity encourages children to reflect on the year they’ve just had and write a message to their future selves. What do they want to remember? What do they hope for? What encouragement do they want to hear when a new class begins? What helped them last year? The resource includes fun cut-out stamp illustrations to enhance the experience and make children feel like they are really mailing it to themselves!

Features:

  • Printable postcard template.
  • Includes optional cut-and-stick stamp illustrations.
  • Ideal for all primary age groups.

Benefits:

  • Supports emotional readiness for the next school year.
  • Encourages self-reflection and personal growth.
  • Reduces anxiety by helping children connect their present and future selves.
  • Creates a keepsake or classroom tradition for transitions.
  • Encourages written expression in a purposeful, meaningful format.

How to Use

Introduce the resource during the final weeks of term. Encourage children to reflect on what they've learned, what they’ve enjoyed, and what advice or encouragement they might need in the new school year. Ask them to write a supportive, positive message to their future self, with specific goals or reminders. Children can cut out and glue a stamp to complete the postcard.

Optionally, create a class or school mailbox for children to post their cards, to be read in September!

This resource offers a meaningful and supportive way to close the school year, helping students process transition and feel ready to start a new year, and we guarantee that they will love reading back their postcards back come September!
