This routine-based activity is designed to help children establish a consistent and structured morning routine, which can have a positive impact on their mental health and overall well-being.
Routines provide a sense of stability and control, allowing children to start their day in a calm and prepared manner. This activity encourages children to identify and map out their morning activities using action squares on our routine map.
Key Features and benefits:
Routine Recognition: The activity prompts children to recognise and identify the actions they typically engage in during their morning routine. It provides pre-made action squares representing common morning activities, such as brushing teeth, getting dressed, eating breakfast, and more. Additionally, blank squares are included to accommodate any activities specific to each child's routine that are not included.
Visual Representation: By using action squares and a routine map, the activity provides a visual representation of the morning routine. This visual aid helps children understand the sequence of activities which can help children feel calm and prepared. Children can cut out the action squares and place them in the desired order on the routines chart, creating a visual guide.
Mental Health Benefits: Establishing and following a morning routine promotes feelings of calmness, reduces stress and anxiety, and enhances overall well-being. By engaging in a predictable routine, children experience a sense of control and preparedness, which can positively impact their mood and mindset throughout the day.
Structure and Stability: Routines provide children with a sense of structure and stability, which can be particularly beneficial for those with autism, ADHD, and anxiety. Having a clear and consistent morning routine helps children navigate their mornings with greater ease, reducing uncertainty and promoting a sense of security.
Emotional Regulation: Following a morning routine helps children regulate their emotions by providing a predictable and organised start to the day.
Skill Development: Engaging in routine planning and execution promotes important life skills such as time management, organisation, and responsibility. Children learn to prioritise tasks, manage their time effectively, and take ownership of their morning routine, contributing to their personal growth and development.
This cut and stick activity promotes a positive mindset, builds independence and sets the stage for a successful day ahead.
