Be Happy Summer Camp – Week Five, Activity One – Keep The Fire Burning

Survival Skills Badge – Keep the Fire Burning

Time is flying by! By now your badge sheet should have a total of eight badges, with just four to go. This week, we're earning our Survival Skills Badge by building a campfire and keeping it burning - figuratively speaking of course!

This activity uses the analogy of a campfire to explore how we can look after our own wellbeing and energy levels. Just like a campfire in the wild needs looking after and regular fuel to keep burning, our wellbeing needs looking after too. It helps children think about what they can do when their own ‘fire’ starts to run low and they feel tired, worried, overwhelmed or simply not quite themselves.

Children are encouraged to colour, cut out and display their own campfire before returning to it throughout the week. Each time, they’ll choose one of our Survival Skills Cards and complete a simple wellbeing activity inspired by surviving in the wild - from taking shelter and refuelling to resting or sending an SOS. Once complete, they can add another flame to their campfire and keep their fire burning!

It’s a fun, hands-on way to help children practise different ways of looking after themselves and coping when things feel tough. This activity can be used as part of the Be Happy Summer Camp to earn our Survival Skills Badge, or as a standalone activity to help children explore ways of looking after their wellbeing.
