Be Happy Summer Camp: Week Six, Activity One - My Mental Health First Aid Kit
Welcome to Week Six of the Be Happy Summer Camp! It's our final week and this week we are focusing on emotional well-being by creating a personalised Mental Health First Aid Kit, earning our penultimate First Aid Badge. Unlike physical first aid, which treats physical injuries, mental health first aid equips us with tools to support our emotional health.
About This Resource
In this activity, your child will learn to identify signs of emotional distress and create a kit with strategies to manage these feelings. The kit will help them recognise when they're not feeling their best and provide practical steps to regain control and improve their mood. This hands-on project encourages self-awareness and equips children with coping mechanisms they can rely on to help them self-regulate during challenging times.
How to Use
- Identify Signs: Start by helping your child reflect on how their body and mind feel when they're not at their best. They might notice unhelpful thoughts, a fluttery heart, loss of interest in activities, or feelings of tiredness. Ask them to write down two or three signs that indicate they're not feeling their best.
- Create the Kit: Follow the prompts provided in the activity to create their Mental Health First Aid Kit.
- Utilise the Kit: Encourage your child to refer to their kit whenever they notice the signs they’ve identified. This will help them manage their emotions effectively and regain a sense of control.
Benefits
- Promotes Self-Awareness: Helps children recognise their emotional signals and understand their feelings.
- Provides Practical Strategies: Equips children with effective tools and coping mechanisms for managing stress and emotional challenges.
- Enhances Emotional Intelligence: Fosters resilience and emotional regulation, aiding in better handling of difficult situations.
- Encourages Proactive Self-Care: Empowers children to take charge of their emotional wellbeing and self-regulate independently.
- Supports Long-Term Well-Being: Instills lifelong skills for emotional management and self-care.
Download the resource now and help your child build their own Mental Health First Aid Kit to support their emotional health and resilience.
