Be Happy Summer Camp - Week Four, Activity Two - Friendship Values
This week, we're focusing on friendship—exploring the qualities that make a good friend and reflecting on the connections we share with others. Building strong connections and surrounding ourselves with good friends is essential for our wellbeing, as it helps us feel loved and valued.
This is a two-part activity:
First Activity: Friendship Paper Chain
Start by creating a friendship paper chain! Colour in and decorate the stick figures, then write down qualities that make a good friend, such as honesty, kindness, loyalty, and patience, on each figure. Think about the qualities you appreciate in your own friendships to guide you. Once you're done, cut out the figures and glue them together to form a bright and colourful paper chain that celebrates friendship.
Second Activity: Design and Gift Friendship Bracelets
Next, design and gift friendship bracelets! We've provided bracelet templates for you to colour, decorate, and cut out. You can make matching bracelets to share with your friends or design each one to reflect the unique qualities of each friend. Once your designs are complete, share them with your friends to show how much you appreciate them.
Why these activities matter:
- Enhances Social Skills: By thinking about and discussing the qualities of a good friend, children learn important social skills like empathy, kindness, and communication.
- Strengthens Friendships: Creating friendship paper chains and bracelets encourages children to appreciate and celebrate their friends, deepening their connections and fostering stronger, more supportive relationships.
- Encourages Teamwork: If done in a group setting, these activities promote teamwork and cooperation as children share ideas and work together to complete their projects.
- Builds Emotional Intelligence: Reflecting on the qualities of friendship helps children understand their own emotions and the emotions of others, enhancing their emotional intelligence.
- Boosts Creativity: Decorating the paper chains and bracelets allows children to express themselves creatively, making the process enjoyable and engaging.
- Promotes Giving and Gratitude: Designing and gifting friendship bracelets encourages children to think about others, developing a sense of generosity and gratitude for the people in their lives.
