Be Happy Summer Camp - Week Four, Activity One - Make a Me Mobile
This week, we are focussing on earning our Confidence Badge with a fun craft. To do this, we're going to create a "Me Mobile" that your child can hang up as a daily reminder of their amazing qualities and abilities!
How to make:
- Colour In and Decorate: Start by colouring in and encouraging your child to decorate the rainbow and shapes.
- Compliment Yourself! In the stars and clouds, ask your child to write six compliments about themselves. If they're unsure what to write, why not urge them to ask their loved ones for some kind words?
- Cut Out: Once they've finished, cut out the shapes and punch holes where we've marked.
- Assemble: Use string to attach the stars and clouds to the rainbow, just like in our example.
- Hang Up and Display: Finally, hang your "Me Mobile" with pride, and let it remind you every day of how special you are!
Why this activity matters:
By recognising our unique qualities and strengths, we learn to appreciate ourselves and develop a positive self-image. It's important to focus on the things that make us feel good about who we are.
- Boosts Self-Esteem: By identifying and celebrating their own positive qualities, children develop a stronger sense of self-worth and confidence.
- Encourages Self-Reflection: This activity prompts children to think about what makes them unique and special, fostering self-awareness and personal growth.
- Promotes Positive Thinking: Writing down compliments about themselves encourages children to focus on their strengths, helping to build a positive mindset.
- Strengthens Emotional Wellbeing: Regularly seeing their "Me Mobile" serves as a reminder of their good qualities, which can help reinforce a positive self-image and emotional resilience.
- Engages Creativity: Decorating and assembling the mobile allows children to express themselves creatively, which can be both fun and therapeutic.
- Supports Social Connections: Involving loved ones in the activity by asking for compliments can strengthen bonds and provide children with valuable positive feedback from others.
