Emotion Guess Who - A fun, printable emotional literacy game for children!

Help children to identify and communicate emotions in our new printable emotional literacy resource for children. In Emotion Guess Who, we support your children to learn how to identify emotions based on facial expressions and upper body language, as well as help them develop the ability to expand their emotional vocabulary.

How to Play - Two Players

Cut out all the Emotion Cards and distribute the two game sheets. Ask each child to pick an Emotion Card at random. Each child should then take turns asking yes or no questions to guess their opponent’s emotion without naming the emotion, crossing out the emotions as they go. The first to guess their opponent’s Emotion Card wins! Encourage children to think about facial expressions, parts of the face, hands and body language.

Sample Questions

Emotion Guess Who is designed to help children learn about emotions and how we express them. How can we tell if someone is happy or angry? Encourage your children to think about the facial expressions and body language on our cards and game sheets. We’ve provided some example questions below:

  • Do they have their eyes closed?
  • Can you see their hands?
  • Is their mouth open?
  • Are they smiling?
  • Are they crying?
  • Can you see their teeth?
  • Are their arms by their side?
  • Are their arms across their chest?
  • Are their eyes open wide?

Don't worry if children struggle - they can ask questions about physical attributes too e.g. Are they wearing glasses? Do they have an orange t shirt on? - They will still be learning all about emotions as they play!
